Kansas Jayhawks

The Dr James Naismith did not know that one day a team would emerge as the Jay hawks or he would coach it as he stood with two baskets and a ball trying to figure out the rules of the game. Kansas Jayhawks are a basket ball team in the city of Kansas. Dr Naismith was a man who was credited with inventing this game. He had the opportunity to coach the Jayhawks in the year 1898. He was the first person to coach the team. In the year 1891 he had developed 13 original rules in Springfield, Mass. During his period as a head coach of the Jay hawks, he was paid a sum of 1300 dollars a year, considered a princely sum then, but a paltry sum considering the standards that a coach would demand nowadays. The game started gaining popularity in the University of Kansas and in the city. In the year 1896 an article appeared in the Lawrence Journal. It was thus stated "There is talk of organizing a basket ball team at Kansas University and challenging teams in Kansas City and other places where the game has become popular. A great many of the members of the faculty and students of the university are playing the game now and it promises to become even more popular. "

The Jay hawks are the most winning team and no other team from the Kansas University has given any basket ball Olympians or hall of fame members than Kansas University. An advantage of the Jayhawks team is the dominance earned by the team on its home turf. The Jayhawks basket ball team made the Hoch Auditorium as its home. The Robinson Gymnasium was too old for further use by the team. The hawks lost out in the following two seasons. After this the Kansas University earned the big six conference championship title. With this title being earned by them in 11 of 13 years they were considered a force that was nearly un-stoppable.

The Allen Field house is one among the biggest basket ball facility and is awarded the distinction repeatedly as the best place to watch college basket ball. This facility was dedicated to the Kansas University for their Win against the Kansas state university. The Kansas University posted a 77 against the 66 of Kansas state university. The Kansas University has won almost 80% of its victories in this facility. This facility was again expanded to accommodate more fans for the tournaments. In the year 1995 the capacity of the facility was increased to seat 16,500 fans. Earlier it had a capacity of 15,200. Crowds used to gather here more than its seating capacity. This practice was allowed till the mid-80'. The largest ever crowd was allowed when the Jayhawks beat the rivals Kansas State during which the facility was dedicated.

The Kansas University did not lose a single game in the last 45 years of play there at Allen Fieldhouse. It was a time during which 12 teams were cycled. However, the Kansas University recorded a losing game only during the tenure of Coach Dr James Naismith, the man who invented this game.
